Therapeutic Approach
Parents are busy people with a lot on their plates. What works for one person may not work for you. I use a variety of approaches in our sessions together because I recognize therapy is not a 'one size fits all' type of situation. My goal is to get to know you and provide a comfortable place for you to open up and be yourself. If you have feedback, I want to hear it and make sure the direction we are going in therapy is working for you.
Some of these approaches include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Solution-focused Therapy (SFT)
Motivational Interviewing
Strength-based Therapy
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Meet Rochelle Kaikai
Registered Social Worker
I am a Registered Social Worker with a passion for supporting the mental health of moms and partners during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. I am a mom to two boys, a wife, sister, daughter, and friend. Sometimes you could even call me a chef, plumber, maid, problem solver, finder of all things, entertainer, chauffer; the list goes on. As a mom, I wear many hats throughout the day and am always (mostly) ready to face any challenge that quite literally may be thrown at me. Toddlers, am I right? It is through my professional experience as a Social Worker and my personal experience as a mom that Rooted Thistle Counselling was born.
When I had my first child I put a lot of pressure on myself to do things perfectly. It took me a while to understand that motherhood is not perfect and that uncontrollable things will inevitably come up. I had to learn new ways to show myself compassion and work through challenges as they came up. As moms we are often told to put everyone else’s needs ahead of our own, to keep going even when we are depleted, and to rarely ask for help. It is this type of thinking that prevents moms from being able to get the support they need when they need it. I believe all moms and partners are worthy of support, recognition, community, and health. I see you, I see your struggle, and I want to be there with you while you work toward rediscovering yourself.
