Moms are busy people with a lot on their plates. What works for one mom, may not work for you. I use a variety of approaches in our sessions together because I recognize therapy is not a 'one size fits all' type of situation. My goal is to get to know you and provide a comfortable place for you to open up and be yourself. If you have feedback, I want to hear it and make sure the direction we are going in therapy is working for you
Some of these approaches include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Solution-focused Therapy (SFT)
Family Systems Theory
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Registered Social Worker
I am a Registered Social Worker with a passion for supporting the mental health of moms during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. I am a mom to two boys, a wife, sister, daughter, and friend. Sometimes you could even call me a chef, plumber, maid, problem solver, finder of all things, entertainer, chauffer; the list goes on. As a mom, I wear many hats throughout the day and am always (mostly) ready to face any challenge that quite literally may be thrown at me. Toddlers, am I right? All joking aside, I take great pride in both my career and my role as wife and ‘mommy’. It is through my professional experience as a Social Worker and my personal experience as a mom that Rooted Thistle Counselling was born.
When I had my first child I put a lot of pressure on myself to do things perfectly. It took me a while to understand that motherhood is not perfect and things will inevitably come up that are uncontrollable. I had to learn how to show myself compassion and work through challenges as they come up in a healthy way. Motherhood is full of transitions. Whether you are a new mom still trying to find your groove or an experienced mom whose children are leaving home for the first time, change is inevitable. The key is knowing when your tank is empty and doing something about it so you have the energy to face challenges as they come. As moms we are often told to put everyone else’s needs ahead of our own, to keep going even when we are depleted, and to rarely ask for help. It is this type of thinking that prevents moms from being able to get the support they need when they need it. I believe all moms are worthy of support, recognition, community, and health. I see you, I see your struggle, and I want to be there with you while you work toward rediscovering yourself within motherhood.
